There can be two reasons why this may be happening: your device's batteries got loose while in transit and need to be re-seated, battery holder clips are loose or your device is malfunctioning. Unplug your device. Pry open the lid with a flat screwdriver as shown.
Visually inspect the batteries. If they are jolted while in transit, you may see that only one end is making a good contact. Snap it in place and close the lid if that is the case.
It is also possible that the clips that hold batteries are not making a good connection. To fix that, gently bend battery clips towards each other as shown.
Reinstall all 3 batteries. Plug the device back in and wait for an ON alert. Unplug the device and wait for an OFF alert
Plug your device back in. Wait until you get a Power ON alert and unplug it again. Wait for 1 minute. If you have not received a Power OFF alert, send an email with your phone number and address to support@myspool.com
Please keep in mind these features when testing your device:
- We do not record momentary power outages. Power needs to be OFF for 15 seconds or more for the device to notify you
- SMS: we send one Power ON and one Power OFF TEXT MESSAGE every 5 min
- EMAIL: we send one EMAIL MESSAGE per min
- When testing, after you unplug your device, please wait for an OFF alert before you plug your device back in
My device has been setup and operational for a while.It has been tested and is working fine. However, simetimes I get a Power ON alert even when there was no power outage. Why?
Do not be concerned if you sometimes get a Power ON alert without getting a Power OFF alert first. These may be caused by an electrical spike on the line or a sporadic voltage drop. Either one may cause our device to restart - this is what a single Power ON alert signifies. If you get one without getting a Power OFF alert first, you can ignore it.
Do I need to change batteries in Power Failure Alert? If so, how often?
MySpool Power Failure Alert requires batteries only for a few seconds to send an OFF alert. Then it shuts down and does not use batteries again until the next Power OFF event. One set of batteries should be good for about 500 such events - or for as long as their shelf life permits. We recommend replacing the batteries every few years to ensure no interruptions in the device's life cycle.
Alkaline batteries last 5-10 years but should be tested annually. Unplug your device, wait for the Power OFF alert, then plug it back in and confirm that you also received a Power ON alert.
We will send a courtesy email reminder to replace your batteries after 5 years.
If you need to reset your Power Alert to the factory settings or simply need to re-configure it to use another WiFi router, you need to erase old WiFi information first. How is it done?
- Unplug your Power Alert device from A/C
- Pop the lid using a flat screwdriver in one of the two slots
- Remove one battery
- Locate and push the CLEAR button. While keeping the CLEAR button depressed, plug your Power Alert in A/C
- After 20 sec release the CLEAR button. Your device has been cleared of WiFi information
- Unplug your device and leave it unplugged for 30 sec
- Insert the third battery back in and plug the device into A/C
Your Power Alert is ready to be configured with a new WiFi network.
If you need to reset your Power Alert to the factory settings or simply need to re-configure it to use another WiFi router, you need to erase old WiFi information first. How is it done?
- plug your device to the AC outlet
- press and hold the CLEAR
- while holding the CLEAR button depressed, press the RESET button for 2 seconds
- wait for the first long blink of the blue LED
- wait for the second long blink of the blue LED and release the CLEAR button
- you device is now reset
- connect your device to you wifi as describe here

Are there special consideration when adding sensors to P4: Power Failure Detector with 4 Sensors?
P4 comes with two 2-pin JST connectors. The first one is marked APP on top and CONT1 on the bottom. And the second one is marked CONT2. There are two considerations to keep in mind when using these connectors:
1. CONT1 must be open when your device is being configured, otherwise the Blue and White setup window will not pop up when you connect to SAS-XXXXXX network.
2. CONT2 must be open when power is restored or your device is powered up when plugged in.
We recommend that you use CONT1 if you intend to add only one sensor. In that case, proceed with your device setup as described in the Setup brochure. After it's been setup and tested, add your sensor to CONT1 and configure its message on device configuration page on myspool.com.
Should you choose to use CONT2, make sure that your sensor is normally open. Otherwise, in case of power loss, your device will not restart correctly.
All of these sensors are configured to operate in the normally open mode: a float sensor, a push switch or a door open sensor. Be aware that our float sensor can be setup to trigger (short) on either high water or low water conditions. It is shipped to send a short on high water. Flip the float 180 degrees to send a short on low water if desired.

In general, a steady Red LED indicates an alarm condition, steady Green LED indicates a normal running state, and blinking Blue LED indicates communications with MySpool cloud servers.
Startup before WiFi configuration: Red, Green, Blue blinks, then steady Blue LED is lit indicating no cloud connection.
Startup after WiFi has been configured: Red, Green, Blue blinks, all OFF, two Blue blinks, then Green is lit indicating normal running condition.
