MySpool platform

This platform was conceived to serve as an efficient alerting platform for industrial purposes. Rather than simply adding notifications to an existing product, our approach was to develop a platform that provides the following capabilities:

  • Ability to handle many independent sensors
  • Support multiple notification mechanisms
  • Support multiple recipients
  • Flexibility to integrate with external services
  • Provide a centralized approach to managing all the above functionalities
  • Enable creation of centralized services that add value to our users

If this seems a bit complex, here are a few instances that demonstrate the benefits of meeting these requirements in our everyday activities:

  • A single user can link numerous devices to their account.
  • Each device can handle various types of notifications, including SMS, email, and push notifications.
  • Notifications can be sent to multiple email addresses. Some of our OEM partners even include multiple SMS recipients for each device.
  • We support data collection services like ThingSpeak, which enable users to view data charts spanning days, months, or even years.
  • Our Central Monitoring service caters to all devices powered by A/C and has been highly praised by users for alerting them to real-life issues.

Our decision to adopt Amazon Web Services as the premier cloud service provider was made seven years ago, based on its superiority at that time. We continue to hold the view that AWS outshines other cloud providers in terms of the multitude of services and features it provides.

A little history: our requirements came from our experience with a 3D printer startup that made large printers. Some printing jobs lasted for 48 hours or even longer. And the need to monitor multiple conditions
such as heat dissipation, filament resupply and mechanical emergencies drove requirements for independent monitoring and alerting with multiple personnel to be notified immediately.

Here is a suggestion to assist you in your device selection when comparing different vendors:

If you are an advanced user in the process of selecting a device that can meet your needs, we recommend that you ask the following questions:

1. Can you disable notifications remotely?    When a problem occurs, you may be flooded with alerts. You may need to disable them temporarily, particularly if you are monitoring a number of devices.
2. Can you remotely add or remove email addresses? If you are away from your device and need to include another contact, such as a maintenance company or a friend, it is crucial to have the capability to do so remotely.
3. Can you change the message that your device sends, either  through email or SMS, from a remote location or from your home? This is important if you are monitoring multiple devices and would like to customize the notification message to indicate a specific location, for example.
4. Can you specify the time period during which you wish to receive notifications remotely? For instance, if you prefer not to receive alerts from your Mail Alert between midnight and 7 am.
5. Can you change your temperature sensor from Fahrenheit to Celsius or adjust the sensitivity of your Internet Outage sensor, i.e., change your sensor settings remotely?

If you answered Yes to ALL of these questions, your choice must be a MySpool device!
